Finger Lime Dinner 2026

A Celebration of Citrus: Matakana Finger Lime Harvest Dinner at The Farmer’s Daughter

Set against the warmth of a Matakana evening, the Finger Lime Harvest Dinner at The Farmer’s Daughter was a celebration of seasonality, collaboration, and one of the region’s most unique ingredients.

The evening brought together local produce, thoughtful cooking, and the vibrant character of Matakana finger limes — showcased across a beautifully curated menu designed to highlight their versatility.

Guests were welcomed with a menu that set the tone: refined yet playful, with finger lime woven through each course in unexpected ways.

The night began with a beef tartare, layered with nori, basil, tomato, and bursts of finger lime. The citrus pearls cut cleanly through the richness, adding brightness and texture, while crisp elements brought contrast to the dish.

This was followed by cured kingfish, delicately paired with grapefruit and stracciatella. Here, the finger lime added a subtle acidity — lifting the dish without overpowering its natural freshness. The balance of creamy, citrus, and clean ocean flavours captured the essence of the ingredient.

A highlight of the evening was the tordelli filled with smoked ricotta, finished with sorrel, lemon, and finger lime. The dish was rich and comforting, yet the finger lime provided a gentle lift — its signature pearls offering small, bright moments within the creamy sauce.

To finish, a coconut mousse cake combined lime, feijoa, kiwi, and finger lime in a dessert that was both light and expressive of the region. The citrus notes carried through without overwhelming, bringing the meal to a refreshing close.

Throughout the dinner, what stood out was not just the flavour of the finger limes, but their versatility — seamlessly moving from savoury to sweet, from bold to subtle.

More than just a meal, the Harvest Dinner was a reflection of Matakana itself — a place where growers, chefs, and community come together around exceptional local produce.

An intimate, seasonal gathering that celebrated the harvest at its peak, and the unique role finger limes are beginning to play in New Zealand’s food landscape.
